This book is an incredible source of information for anyone who shares my fascination for quilt blocks. It contains images of 5,500 pieced quilt blocks and includes source information
whenever possible. I keep this book on my desk next to my computer and use it to answer block questions that land in my mailbox each week. It does not contain instructions for making each block, but you can use the images to draft blocks in the sizes that you need. The author provides grids at the beginning of each section to help you draft the blocks within the section. This is an amazing block collection that deserves to be on every quilter's bookshelf!

From Better Homes and Gardens. As the title states, this is a collection of 505 quilt blocks. Some are recognizable as
favorite traditional blocks that have been around for ages, but there are also lots of new
blocks on more contemporary subjects. The book begins with 36 wonderfully photographed
projects. All blocks in the book are the same size (4 inches), so they are interchangeable
with the blocks used in the projects.
Now, on to the blocks. I like the way the blocks have been arranged by category,
making it very easy to find what you are looking for. The categories include Animals &
Insects, Baskets, & Bows, Buildings, Children, Country, Floral, Fruits & Foods, Holidays,
Numbers & Alphabet, Patriotism, Retro, Sports, Stars, Traditional, and Trees & Leaves.
Block techniques include applique and template piecing. Many of the pieced blocks are easily
adaptable to paper-piecing, if you enjoy that method. Many of the blocks are embellished with
embroidery and there is a nice set of instructions for various embroidery stitches that can
be used.
If a 4" block is too small for your purpose, permission is granted to resize the patterns with
a photocopier (for your personal use, of course).
If you are looking for a good collection of blocks, this is a wonderful choice.

Carol Doak is my favorite paper-piecing expert. Her latest book offers an exciting array of
300 blocks, all made easy by paper-piecing. In addition, there is a CD-ROM included with
the book that you can use to print out the blocks from your computer.
The book begins with a wonderfully illustrated explanation of paper-piecing. Each of the 300
blocks is accompanied by a handy cutting chart and a color photo of the finished block. Block
subjects include letters, numbers, people, structures, vehicles, flowers, and a wide assortment
of striking geometric designs. At less than 10 cents per pattern, this paper-pieced collection
is a great value!
